How to fold and store a duvet to save space?
Whether it's when the good weather arrives, or when it's time to swap the summer duvet for the winter one, duvets are often cumbersome. Their storage is a real headache because of their large size. To optimize the space in an interior while keeping the bedding safe from dust and dirt, there are habits to adopt. Tips for ingenious folding and storage.
How to store your duvet?
Folding a duvet on its own to store it in a wardrobe or a box is a real titanic job, given its size and weight. The technique differs according to the accessories available.
If there is a hanging hook, sturdy enough to support the weight and volume of the duvet, place the two parallel sides of the duvet on it using two pliers. Connect one by one the two sides hanging at the bottom with the upper part held by the two clamps to give a rectangular shape. This one is simpler for storage at the foot of the bed. On the other hand, for storage provided in a closet, prefer a square shape, occupying less space. To achieve this, connect one of the two sides of the hanging duvet with the other by removing a clamp. Repeat this operation according to the size of the duvet.
In the absence of a hanging hook, the folding of the duvet can be done on the bed or on a surface large enough to extend it. The first operation consists of spreading it out before connecting one side to another until it forms a rectangle or a square depending on the planned storage.
How to double fold a duvet?
As a couple, folding becomes easier even if it's still easier to fold a sheet or a pillowcase! To do this :
Hold each side of the duvet at arm's length so as to obtain two parallel sides on either side of each person;
Join each of the sides held by each person to form a rectangle;
Continue folding by redistributing the parallel sides, and connecting them until you obtain the desired shape.
Folding and storing a duvet: other techniques
It is not always necessary to fold the duvet for storage.
To save energy and space, simply roll it up and leave it at the end of the bed. This simple technique offers both space saving and a touch of originality. Thus, the weight and volume of the duvet will no longer be constraints.
Tie it with a pretty ribbon to act as a decorative element on the bedding.
Thus, there is no need to make and unpack the bed before and after bedtime. And even household linen can serve as decoration.

Where to store a duvet?
Depending on the configuration and the space available in the home, apartment or large house, it is possible to adopt different storage tips.
In a large pavilion, the choices are many: in a closet, a dressing room, a chest or an attic. However, protection against humidity and dust is essential and it is wise to invest in a cover or other airtight containers.
In an apartment, it is necessary to find practical and ergonomic storage tips. Thus, the spaces under the bed or in height can be exploited.
In the laundry room
The laundry room is an ideal storage space for linens, especially if the bedrooms are cramped. Thus, it is advisable to install a wooden chest of drawers or a metal locker in the laundry room to accommodate them. Sturdy furniture is preferred, especially those made from resistant materials such as medium boards for shelves. Also, choose a good quality metal to better maintain the quality of the quilts.
Ingenious storage in the bedroom
Boxes and storage bags are a must for space-saving storage. Once the duvets have been folded, insert them into these accessories before slipping them in turn under the bed. Favor padded versions, offering better protection against humidity.
