World-UN Secretary-General: "We follow with concern the situation in Tunisia, the Democratic Revolution must be protected"

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said during a a press conference held last Friday on his priorities for 2022, which he "is following with great concern the situation in Tunisia".

“We believe that the Tunisian Democratic Revolution has given hope to the whole world and we want to protect it and all democratic values. We hope this will happen and we have felt your concern…. I hope that these concerns will be lifted by the full restoration of an institutional democratic framework at the service of all Tunisians,” he said.

Abdallah Kallel and former security officials caught up in the past

The Criminal Chamber in charge of transitional justice has banned former security officials and former Interior Minister Abdallah Kallel to leave the national territory. Their names are cited in torture cases dating back to the early 1990s.

Ex-responsible Zouhair Drissi and former director of national security Ezzeddine Jenayah are also in the sights of justice.

Murder of Commander Houimli: 3 convictions including a death sentence

The verdict in the case of the atrocious murder of Commander Faouzi Houimli is in: three of the four defendants were sentenced to 4 years in prison at capital punishment. The perpetrator of the crime was sentenced to death with a security sentence of 36 years in prison (since the death penalty is not carried out in Tunisia) in addition to a fine of 350,000 dinars which the heirs of the victim.

The second defendant was sentenced to 7 years in prison with immediate execution and the third is sentenced to 4 years in prison. The fourth was released. So decided the Criminal Chamber at the Court of First Instance of Tunis yesterday Friday January 21, reports TAP this Saturday.
