Sébastien Tellier's good tips, the relaxation par excellence

The Good Life is waiting for Sébastien Tellier to get us moving again live with his mind-blowing melodies… In the meantime, here are his good tips.

Good advice from Sébastien Tellier:

Where do you take refuge to forget everything? All the big issues in my life are reflected on my sofa. An almost dantesque place, where I forget everything and learn at the same time.

Your favorite city? Biarritz, a pretty, slightly bourgeois town, with good caterers and clothing stores. At the same time, nature is right next door, spectacular, with its giant waves. It is a balance in which I feel protected. Since I sang I dream of Biarritz in summer, in Roche, I feel very attached to it.

Which one impressed you the most, and why? I had my biggest shock in Los Angeles. I loved discovering the dens and mysteries of international show biz there, the film and music studios, where Michael Jackson had been able to record a voiceover, finding Jimi Hendrix's guitars in a store, walking past the portal of the house of Quincy Jones… We feel there a power of the sprawling spectacle.

Which one would you absolutely like to discover? Cape Town, South Africa, sounds "at the end of the world". There is this kind of huge hill that runs aground in the sea, the green that breaks in the water, like a counter-wave, it makes me dream.

Which one would you like to return to? I got married in Benin [ex‑Dahomey, NDLR], and I loved the lifestyle of Cotonou, its rhythm, the shopping streets, the residential areas. The guards of the large villas, for example, are lying on the ground, unlike the guards of the Queen of England, who stand upright. I don't like seriousness or rigidity, and there, I found a real philosophy of life in which I fully recognize myself.

Les good tips de Sébastien Tellier, la relaxation par excellence

Your favorite hotel in the world? The Sublime Comporta, in Portugal. It is the perfect hotel, like a Disneyland for adults: open to nature, with bungalows, natural swimming pools, vegetable gardens, golf carts, there is even a gourmet restaurant, all surrounded by bamboo.

A restaurant in France? Septime is "the" swingiest restaurant in the world, that's the top. The cuisine is so controlled, enjoyable, it almost makes you soar and takes us into spheres that go beyond the realm of culinary art, to the point of over-excitement, delirium, drunkenness.

And abroad? That of the Bellariva hotel, on Lake Garda. Their specialty: crispy cauliflower floating on a bed of melted parmesan, mamma mia!

Your best bar in the world? In the 18th arrondissement is a very small, hyperpopular, old and very inexpensive bar, which has never been redone. In Nant, everyone is having fun, there is the best atmosphere you can imagine: an absolute frenzy, with people dancing, laughing, crying, others on the floor. There is everything, right away.

The concert that impressed you the most? Vladimir Cosma, at the Grand Rex. I didn't imagine him performing so well on stage, it was almost more precise than his records, he blew me away.

The one you dream of attending soon? The Cure.

An album to (re)listen to in 2021? Say It Ain't So by Murray Head. The song Say It Ain't So, Joe has some great emotional ups and downs and a hugely successful final release. Even if it is an album from 1976, it is soft, comforting, the emotion it provides sticks to today.

An artist to discover? Honey Arper, a very stylish singer who mixes country chords with electronic textures. A wonderful wedding.

Your last vacation? In Guéthary, a small fishing and surfer village in the Basque Country, where I had rented an apartment on the beach. Because of storm Bella, I spent my time watching giant waves crashing on the cliff, it was awesome.

The next ones? I wish it was Saint-Martin, in the Caribbean. I feel like something is waiting for me there...

The most beautiful beach in France? Bijou Plage, in Cannes, at the end of the day. The nectar of the Côte d'Azur.

The most beautiful square in the world? Place Dalida, in Montmartre. She is a singer that I cherish, so I like to stay in the company of her bust while smoking a cigarette on a bench, early in the morning, after having brought my daughter to the nursery.
