You wanted to serve a creamy and velvety soup, but here you are with a preparation that is far too liquid for your taste, how do you thicken a liquid soup? Do not panic, if you have added too much water, here are some tips to catch up.

5 tips for thickening a too liquid soup

1 - Potato starch

If your soup is way too watery, mix a tablespoon of potato starch with a glass of water, then stir it into your soup. 


2 - Cornstarch

Cornstarch, such as cornflour, is also great for thickening your recipe. Be sure to mix the starch well so that there are no lumps. To avoid them, it is recommended to make your mixture in a cold liquid.


3 - Tapioca

After cooking your tapioca for about 15 minutes, pour it into your soup. You will then obtain a slightly thicker texture. You can also use soup pastes. 


4 - Wheat flour

Pour a little flour into melted butter and mix, then add a few spoons of milk to obtain a béchamel sauce which will allow you to thicken your soup.


5 - Pulses

If you're making vegetable soup, why not add some lentils? They have the advantage of cooking quickly and thickening your soup.
