September 3: The European Commission and Astrazeneca reach an agreement on late doses deliveries
After long months of legal battle triggered by the delivery delays accused by Astrazeneca, the European executive and the Anglo-Swedish laboratory reached an agreement to settle their dispute. This compromise fixes a binding delivery schedule concerning 200 million doses by the first quarter of 2022, out of the 300 million that the Biotech company had not managed to deliver in time.
Faced with non-compliance with the early purchase contract, the European Commission had filed an appeal to Belgian justice, which had decided in its favor in the summer of 2021.A decision that therefore did not prevent both parties from finding an amicable agreement. If the Anglo-Swedish laboratory were not to honor the deadlines, it would once again be sanctioned since the price of doses would be gradually revised down. The commissioner in charge of health Stella Kyriakides took the opportunity to specify that this additional windfall will make it possible to overcome two major shortcomings: “Vaccination rates vary considerably from one Member State to another and the continuous availability of vaccines, including those of Astrazeneca, remains essential. And as fervent defenders of global cooperation and solidarity in vaccines, we will continue to help the rest of the world.»

On a planetary scale, the Union also continues its efforts for a better distribution of doses and to fill the delay taken by the least developed countries in terms of the vaccine campaign. “L’équipe Europe», composée de l’UE, de ses institutions financières et des Etats membres, a déjà investi 3 milliards d’euros dans le mécanisme COVAX.A mechanism nevertheless criticized for its lack of efficiency since it has only distributed 200 million doses since its implementation.

It was on the occasion of an interview with the Sunday Journal (JDD) on August 22 that the Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer detailed the health protocol which will enter into force during the start of the school year, scheduled for 2september.
All students are called upon to find the school benches, in complete workforce, and will have to respect the port of the mask indoors as well as the barriers.A case of COVID-19 should lead to the closure of a class. If the incidence rate of young people is today higher than that of the start of the 2020 school year, each person can now be vaccinated from 12 years old.A vaccine campaign turned towards adolescents will also take place in establishments.
Beyond the metropolis, this protocol could be different in the overseas departments such as Martinique and Guadeloupe, which have faced an unprecedented Covid-19 wave for several weeks.

The European Commission has followed the step of the United States. “L’UE est prête à discuter de toute proposition qui réponde à la crise de manière efficace et pragmatique», a déclaré sa présidente, Ursula von der Leyen. For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he was ultimately favorable to the lifting of intellectual property on vaccines, after months of opposition to this measure, first preferred doses to poor countries.
