The minimum amount of the bonus paid to interns will not increase in 2022. L'Etudiant explains why it has not been increased while the minimum wage has been revised slightly upwards to compensate for high inflation.
Did you get an internship as part of your studies? You will continue to receive the same minimum compensation in 2022 as in 2021, i.e. 3.90 euros net per hour.
Why this lack of revaluation when the SMIC has been revalued twice in recent months to cope with inflation which is eating away at purchasing power? For reasons of calculation method: the revaluation of the SMIC depends on the household consumer price index. The internship allowance is calculated according to the social security ceiling. However, the government decided by a decree of December 15, 2021 not to increase this ceiling.
The allowance is due if the internship lasts two months or more
The employer who hosts you for an internship for a period of more than two months (i.e. 44 days at 7 hours a day) during of the calendar or university year must obligatorily pay you an internship allowance, called "gratification".
It must be paid to you each month and its amount is set in the internship agreement signed by you, your educational institution and the organization or company hosting you. Depending on the sector of activity, a branch agreement or collective agreement sets a minimum amount of internship compensation.
