    More and more of you are doing your Christmas shopping online. But to avoid unpleasant surprises, it is better to be well informed of your rights and, above all, of the duties of the seller.

    1 Clear information

    Characteristics of the good or service, means of payment accepted, possible delivery restrictions, deposits and guarantees, terms of termination or possibility of additional costs… All information relating to a product sold online must be communicated to the consumer in an understandable, clear and legible manner. Once the order has been paid for, the merchant must send the buyer an order confirmation, accompanied by a form to allow the return of the product if necessary.

    2 Delivery

    The professional is required to deliver the product or provide the service on the date or within the period indicated when ordering. Without this mention, the e-merchant must pay it no later than 30 days after the order. If these deadlines are not respected, the seller may cancel the sales contract. It is up to the professional to reimburse the buyer for all the sums received, within 14 days.

    3 Change of mind

    The consumer has the opportunity to change his mind about his purchase. This right of withdrawal can be exercised before the delivery of the goods or the provision of the service, which leads to the termination of the sales contract.

    4 Avoid scams

    Beware of offers that are too attractive, favor purchases on well-known e-commerce sites and secure online payment areas (with a url address in “https ” and a padlock pictogram). Also avoid placing your orders using a public wifi connection, whether in a café, a hotel or a train station.

    5 Do not save your bank details

    Some applications and browsers offer you to save your bank details so that you do not have to enter them later. However, these terminals are not necessarily designed to guarantee optimal security of banking data.

    If there is a problem with the seller

    Contact customer service first. If no agreement is reached, send a registered letter or an e-mail to notify the seller to proceed with the delivery or refund of your order. Without result, it is possible to seize the competent consumer mediator, indicated in the general conditions of sale (CGV).
